Symposiums

NLR organised the Acoustics Symposium

On Friday, 3 October 2014, NLR organised the Acoustics Symposium 'Innovating Together Towards a Silent Living Environment' at the NLR establishment in Amsterdam. Participants discussed the latest developments in the field of acoustics in the Netherlands, including sensor development and acoustics in air transport, defence and wind turbines.

Following on from the three successful Netherlands Helicopter Safety Days, NLR organised an International Safety Workshop in the autumn of 2014.

Facilitated by the European Helicopter Safety Team (EHEST) and the International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST), the workshop took place during Helitech 2014 at the RAI Congress Centre in Amsterdam. The focus was on key factors affecting flight safety, namely: flight training, risk management and safety management systems, as well as the benefits of technologies and solutions that contribute to improving flight safety.

Specials

On 12 December 2014, NLR's Managing Director Michel Peters was appointed honorary member of the academic society VSV Leonardo da Vinci of the Delft University of Technology. In his appointment speech, the chairman of the society's 70th board explained that Michel had been awarded honorary membership for his role in the Netherlands aerospace sector and for his enthusiastic contribution to relations with the VSV. In his speech, Michel remarked that he also viewed the honorary membership as a token of the society's appreciation for NLR.

To facilitate President Barack Obama's visit to the Rijksmuseum in March 2014, NLR made a special contribution at the behest of the Municipality of Amsterdam. The most visible part of this contribution was a wall of containers to limit the noise of UH-60 Blackhawks and a VH-60 Whitehawk landing and taking off from the lawn outside the Van Gogh Museum. This ensured that paintings in the museum would not be damaged by vibrations resulting from relatively high noise levels caused by the helicopter rotors.
